KEEP CAROL
STREAM BEAUTIFUL
"The
trash and litter of nature disappears into the ground with the
passing of each year, but man’s litter has more permanence."
- John Steinbeck
With the construction of the Town Center and
other Gary Avenue improvements at Hiawatha Drive and St. Charles
Road, the Village has made an investment in beautifying one of
our main highway corridors. This beautification effort has been
supported by several local civic groups who have adopted
segments of local roadways to clean-up. The Village has
committed itself to extending this effort along other main
corridors through our town namely Lies Road, North Avenue and
County Farm Road. Because these road segments are heavily
traveled, their condition has a significant impact on the
impression people have of the Village as they pass through Carol
Stream. This continued beautification effort will require
committed partnerships from our business community, civic groups
and each and every Village resident to achieve a standard of
excellence. To develop a supportive partnership with our
residents, the Village asks that the following actions be taken:
- Place refuse at the curbside no earlier than 6:00 pm on
the evening before your scheduled collection day.
- Place all refuse in a container with a lid or a secured
plastic or paper bag before placing it at the curb for
pick-up.
- Follow the directions, below, for preparing recycling for
collection:
- Empty and rinse all food residue from recycling containers
before placing them in the bin for collection.
- Remove and dispose of all non-steel lids from bottles,
jugs, jars and containers. Steel lids are acceptable.
- Crush/step on all plastics and aluminum cans before
placing them in the blue recycling bin. Because they are
lightweight, crushing them will decrease the likelihood of
them getting windblown.
- Place in your recycling bin only those materials listed by
the Village as acceptable for collection.
- Separate paper and non-paper recycling items. Non-paper
items are to be placed in the bin while paper items are to be
placed in brown grocery bags and tightly bound with string.
- Consider purchasing, from the Village, a lid for your blue
recycling can. Recycling bin lids can be purchased for $3.00
from the Village Cashier.
- Equip your automobiles with anti-litter trash bags.
-
Request
that your school, church or civic organization consider
adopting a portion of road along one of the targeted corridors
for a three-year clean-up agreement. The Adopt-A-Highway
program is coordinated by the Public Works Department which
can be reached at (630) 871-6260.
- Report all observed incidences of fly dumping to the
Police Department.
