Americans typically use 25 gallons of water or more to take a shower.

Running the faucet for five minutes to let the hot water reach the shower head uses as much energy as leaving a 60 watt light bulb on for 14 hours.

Some of this lost water and energy can be saved by installing a low-flow shower head.  They can cut water consumption 50% to 70%.  Installing a tankless water heater and low flow efficient toilets and faucets can also reduce water usage.

Water efficient fixtures are identified by the WaterSense label.  For more information about the EPA’s WaterSense Program, go to http://www.epa.gov/watersense/
