Carol Stream has an active program using volunteers to clean up ponds and streams throughout the Village.

Their efforts have removed over 11 tons of trash from 103 miles of shorelines and stream banks!

Every year volunteers “sweep our ponds and streams” by picking up trash and debris along the pond shorelines and stream banks. Since 1999 almost 750 volunteers have participated in our annual Pond & Stream Sweep.  This year the Pond & Stream Sweep will be held on Saturday, May 22nd starting at 8:00 am.

Some groups have committed to performing an additional clean up later in the year.  For these going the extra step, the Village has placed a volunteer appreciation sign at the pond or stream they clean every year.  We are very grateful and wish to thank all those who have helped remove literally tons of debris from these important natural areas.

If you are interested in making a difference you can download the registration and waiver form by clicking on Pond & Stream Sweep Registration and Waiver Form.  You may also contact Engineering Services at (630) 871-6220 or email us at engineeringservices@carolstream.org.  The Village supplies all the equipment (plastic bags and gloves) and will pick up the bags and haul them to a dumpster.  All you need to do is show up at a pond or stream of your choosing at 8:00 a.m.  See map for clean up locations.  Almost all sites are cleaned up within 2 to 3 hours leaving you the afternoon to enjoy.
