It’s been estimated that of the 300,000 traffic signals in the United States, over 75% of them could be improved through timing adjustments and upgraded equipment.

According to the Institute of Transportation Engineers, “Comprehensive signal retiming programs have documented benefits of 7-13% reduction in overall travel time 15-37% reduction in delay and 6-9% fuel savings”.   It is a very easy effective way to improve traffic flow.

Although Carol Stream only owns and operates one traffic signal, we do have others under the control of IDOT and DuPage County.  All traffic signals in Carol Stream along Gary Avenue, Army Trail Road and North Avenue have been interconnected which optimizes the operation of all the traffic signals along that particular route.  Interconnection of traffic signals is the best way to optimize traffic flow.
