  • In 2007, 77,500 lbs. of white good appliances were recycled from the residential waste stream.

Recyclers reclaim the precious metals in the switch components then recycle the iron clad exterior and the unit's other metal components.

The Village's residential solid waste hauler will pick up white goods by individual appointment free of charge by phoning (630) 261-0578. White goods include refrigerators, stoves, freezers, dryers, washing machines, water heater and air conditioner.

Village code requires residents and business owners planning to discard their unwanted, late model refrigerators and freezers that have self-locking and cannot be opened from the inside to remove the unit's doors or latches before putting out for collection to prevent the suffocation of children who become entrapped. All refrigerators or freezers with magnetic latches can remain intact. Residents are to place the white good scheduled for pick up in front of or adjacent to the property's garage door.
