  • Using alternative modes of transportation, like walking, bicycling or using mass transit can reduce air pollution by reducing or eliminating the amount of greenhouse gas emissions from automobile engines.

The Village has an extensive network of sidewalks and is in the process of constructing bicycle paths that allow residents to make short trips without having to drive.

Currently the Lies Road Trail connects the western half of the Village to the town Center and other eastern destinations. Plans are underway to design a North-South trail, Kuhn Road Trail, that will link to the Great Western Trail to the south and to Bloomingdale's future trails to the north. These will eventually connect to Stratford Square Mall and the North Central DuPage River Regional Trail.

The Village is also applying for funding to design a path/trail along Fair Oaks Road from Army Trail Road to North Avenue called the West Branch Trail and Fair Oaks Bike Path. They will provide access to Illinois Prairie Path, Lies Road Trail, Great Western Trail and eventually to the North Central DuPage River Regional Trail through the Hawk Hollow forest Preserve in Bartlett.

Other trails the Village, DuPage County and adjoining communities are considering include the extension of the Lies Road Trail from Gary Avenue to Schmale Road (eventually to the East Branch DuPage River Greenway Trail), Gary Avenue Trail from Army Trail to the Great Western Trail, Klein Creek Trail (Kuhn Road to Easton Park) and various other short connecting links and on street paths.
