Police Special Operations

The Special Operations Unit (SOU) includes a Crime Prevention Officer, Special Investigators responsible for gang and drug investigations, and School Resource Officers at Glenbard North and Jay Stream Middle School.

The Special Operations Unit partners with outside agencies to facilitate many programs including Crime Prevention, Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE), Gang Resistance Education Awareness Training (GREAT), the Citizens Police Academy , Volunteer Program, and the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). The unit is responsible for the processing of vehicle and property seizures, alcohol and tobacco compliance checks, community outreach, assisting other divisions within the department and educational programs at park districts, Glenbard North High School, and various other public venues.

On August 18th, 2010 the Office of Justice Programs approved an application for funding under the FY 10 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant in the amount of $10,679. The funds will be used to supplement the efforts of the Village through the education of department personnel and upgrade existing surveillance equipment to respond to and proactively act against narcotics trafficking and the sexual exploitation of children.
