The Carol Stream Police Department was was awarded
second place by the International Association of Chiefs of Police
Traffic Safety Challenge. This
award recognizes the Department’s excellence in traffic safety
including enforcement, education and impact. Traffic Challenge is designed to
recognize law enforcement agencies for their efforts throughout
the year that address traffic safety issues.
The Traffic Unit is
comprised of four full-time Officers and is coordinated by a Sergeant. The officers rotate and serve as a Traffic Officer
for 18 months and then return to patrol duties for six months.
Officers from the Traffic Unit work 10-hour days, seven days a week
and provide their specialty coverage from 7:00 am until 4:00 am. Traffic officers receive substantial
training in advanced areas of traffic crash investigation. The
Traffic Unit is responsible for enforcement of the Illinois Vehicle
Code, various public education programs, traffic crash
investigation, Crash Response Team, child safety seat inspection
program, school crossing guard program and the administration of
various Illinois Department of Transportation Division of Traffic
Safety grants.
