After an extensive nationwide selection process, we are happy to announce that Bill Holmer was sworn in as Chief of Police on Monday, July 20th 2020. Bill has over 25 years of experience working for the Glen Ellyn Police Department, 16 of which he served as Assistant Chief.

Bill offers a unique perspective by also having served as the Glen Ellyn Assistant Village Manager since 2018. Newly selected Chief Holmer earned his Master’s degree in Public Safety Administration from Lewis University and his Bachelors in Management from National-Louis University. He has also attended the FBI National Academy and Northwestern University’s School of Police Staff and Command.  Bill’s areas of focus have included policy creation, public communication, grant acquisition, succession planning, and collaborative community policing.
