Current Deputy Police Chief Donald Cummings will be appointed as Police Chief for the Village of Carol Stream. Cummings will be sworn-in to the position at the November 20 Village Board meeting. This opportunity comes as current Police Chief William Holmer steps down from the position to become the Carol Stream Village Manager.   

Cummings, who recently celebrated his 20^th anniversary of employment with the Village, has served in a multitude of capacities, divisions, and specialties within the Carol Stream Police Department. Deputy Chief Cummings started his law enforcement career as a Police Officer in 2003 and worked his way up the ranks to eventually become Deputy Chief in February 2021.

Along with his twenty years of dedicated service in law enforcement, Deputy Chief Cummings has earned a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Northern Illinois University and a Bachelor’s of Science Degree from Western Illinois University. Cummings also attended Northwestern University’s School of Police Staff and Command, where he earned the Franklin M. Kreml Leadership Award. This honor is presented to the student who best displays the dedication, ethics, and other attributes that exemplify the necessary leadership needed in today’s law enforcement community.
