At the February 5 Village Board Meeting, Mayor Frank Saverino, Sr. addressed the shooting incident involving Carol Stream Police Officers that occurred on February 3, 2024:

The Village Board is aware of the very tragic incident that occurred in Carol Stream early Saturday morning when officers responding to a domestic violence were involved in a fatal shooting. I wanted to share some brief thoughts on this incident for our board members and for the Carol Stream community.

First and foremost, officials within the Carol Stream Police Department have reached out to Mr. Goodlow’s family to offer condolences for their loss. On behalf of this Board, I too would like to extend sincere condolences to Mr. Goodlow’s family and loved ones. This is a very tragic incident that occurred in our community. That’s why we will move forward in a way that respects everyone involved in this tragedy. We also will respect the effort to gather facts and information in order to determine exactly what happened.

In order to maintain the integrity of an investigation currently being conducted by the DuPage Metropolitan Emergency Response and Investigative Team, we are unable to provide any more detail than has already been provided by the Carol Stream Police Department. We want the investigation to be thorough, complete and professional.

I want our community to know that it is our intention to proceed in a manner that is fully open and transparent. We will be sharing as much information as we can publicly, including footage from police-worn body cameras and other relevant information, as soon as we are able to do so in a way that will not impede the independent investigation while also being sensitive to Mr. Goodlow’s family.

We know that those involved in this incident and members of our community are entitled to answers and a full understanding of the events of Saturday morning. Please know that we will provide those answers as soon as we are able. In the meantime, I ask our community for patience and understanding as we move forward in the days, weeks and months to come.
