CSPD Release Regarding Arrests Made for Blocking Traffic

Post Date:06/27/2024 12:35 PM

On June 26, 2024, at approximately 6:00 pm, Carol Stream Police Officers encountered a group of individuals at the intersection of North and Gary Avenues assembled near the roadway.

Several of these individuals entered the intersection and began impeding traffic along North Avenue, a multi-lane highway. One individual jumped onto a semi-truck. Officers attempted to convince the individuals to leave the roadway, and provided warnings to disperse or face possible arrest. Despite these orders, several members of the group remained in the roadway and refused to comply.

The high volume of traffic traveling through the intersection presented a significant safety concern for individuals and motorists. After providing the group several opportunities to disperse, and their refusal to comply, officers took custody of five individuals. Three of these individuals face criminal charges.

James N. McKnight of Addison and Michael J. McClellan of Chicago were charged with Acting with Groups, Mob Action, and Resisting Arrest. They were processed and released.
DaJanae T. Barnes of Carol Stream was charged with Threatening a Public Official, Acting with Groups, Mob Action, and Resisting Arrest. DaJane was held for a pretrial detention hearing.

No injuries were reported as a result of this event.
