May is Building Safety Month in Carol Stream

May is Building Safety Month, and the Carol Stream Community Development Department invites you to join us in our observance in alignment with the International Code Council’s 45th annual Building Safety Month, a global campaign dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of building codes in ensuring the safety of our built environment.

The theme for Building Safety Month 2025 – “Game On!” – encourages individuals to actively engage in learning about and practicing building safety. The campaign's weekly themes are:

• Week 1 (May 1–3): “The Warm Up”
• Week 2 (May 4–10): “Build Your Offense”
• Week 3 (May 11–17): “Build Your Defense”
• Week 4 (May 18–24): “The Starting Lineup”
• Week 5 (May 25–31): “Going Into Overtime”

These themes highlight various aspects of building safety, from understanding its impact on daily life to preparing for natural hazards and exploring future trends in the industry.

The International Code Council, a U.S.-based organization that brings together local, state, and federal officials, works to create and implement the highest-quality codes to protect us in the buildings where we live, learn, work, and play. Building Safety Month encourages all Americans to raise awareness about the importance of safe and resilient construction, fire prevention, disaster mitigation, energy conservation, water safety, training the next generation, and new technologies in the construction industry.

Each year, in observance of Building Safety Month, people all over the world are asked to consider their commitment to improving building safety and economic investment at home and in the community, and to acknowledge the essential service provided to all of us by local and state building departments, fire prevention bureaus, and federal agencies in protecting lives and property.
