Property Owners Asked to Address Dead or Diseased Trees

Village Code requires property owners to remove and properly dispose of dead, diseased, or infested trees—considered “nuisance” trees—located on private property. Recently, Village inspectors have been identifying nuisance trees throughout the Village and will soon be contacting property owners regarding their removal.

When hiring a tree contractor to perform this work, the Village recommends that residents:

• Obtain multiple written contractor proposals, including specific details for disposal and cleanup.
• Verify the contractor’s proof of insurance.
• Request multiple references.

Because nuisance trees can pose safety hazards, the Village encourages property owners to voluntarily address their removal. If a nuisance tree is not removed after proper notice from the Village, a citation may be issued, which could result in fines.
