It appears the storm front that dropped 4-5” of snow has cleared the area. Our plows crews have been on the road since approximately 2:00 a.m. and are now moving into final clean-up mode. This includes clearing all streets from curb-to-curb, pushing back intersections, and salting. Later this afternoon, pavement temperatures will begin to dramatically drop causing salt and other de-icing methods to become less effective. Roads can become very slick and icy under these conditions.

REMINDERS:

1. Village street-parking is prohibited until the streets are cleared curb-to-curb (approximately 1:00 p.m. today).
2. Please do NOT shovel or blow snow from your driveway into the street. This can create a hazardous situation for drivers and is a violation of local ordinance.

This has been a challenging event starting with freezing rain late yesterday morning, followed by rain, then heavy snow and more rain, and now steady snow since early morning. Forecasters are calling for snow continuing into early afternoon, with another three inches possible.

All of our plow trucks are on the street and will continue through final cleanup. Please remember to keep your cars off the street until the snow has stopped AND streets are plowed from curb to curb.

Please also refrain from blowing or pushing snow from driveways and sidewalks into the street. Besides creating a potential safety hazard, this is a violation of local code and could result in a ticket from the Police Department.

Roads are very slick as the freezing rain has turned to snow. Our crews continue plow and salt operations as we expect a wintry mix of snow and freezing rain to continue through the early morning.

The National Weather Service reports that our area will be under a Winter Weather Advisory until Midnight tonight.  

• WHAT: Freezing drizzle through early afternoon then changing to a freezing rain and snow mix. Total ice accumulations of one tenth to two tenths of an inch expected this afternoon and evening. Total snow accumulations of around 1-3 inches.
• WHERE: DuPage, Kane, and Cook Counties.
• WHEN: Until midnight tonight
• ADDITIONAL DETAILS: Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions will impact the evening commute.

Precautionary/Preparedness Actions

A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow, sleet or freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Expect slippery roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving.

Response 

Salt trucks will be deployed at 11 am in advance of school dismissals and rush hour, and will remain on the road through the rush hour. We hope to get our crews some rest before returning in the very early morning hours as freezing rain turns into snow (1-3").

We are now in clean-up mode and should finish major operations by approximately 1 pm. Forecasts are calling for a possibility of more light snow into Sunday, and wind gusts throughout the night. Crews may be back.

Crews have been fighting the snow since 9 pm last night. Snow is predicted to move out of the area by this morning, and operations should wrap up by early afternoon.

REMINDERS:

1. Village ordinance prohibits shoveling snow into the road. This creates a safety hazard for motorists and is illegal.
2. Village ordinance also prohibits parking on all Village roads once 1 inch of snow has fallen. Please keep cars off the road until snow clean-up is completed from curb-to-curb.
3. Please do not "Crowd the Plow" and allow plenty of space for our snow fleet to do their jobs.

The National Weather Service reports that our area will be under a Winter Storm Warning from 3:00 p.m. on Friday, January 18, through Noon Saturday, January 19. 

• WHAT: Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 5 to 9 inches expected. Winds gusting 30 to 35 mph.
• WHERE: Lake IL, DuPage and Cook Counties.
• WHEN: Beginning late afternoon and increasing in intensity this evening and persisting through noon CST Saturday.
• ADDITIONAL DETAILS: Travel could be very difficult. Strong winds will result in blowing and drifting snow and could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the evening commute
