The Village of Carol Stream is pleased to continue a partnership with the Illinois Air Team to bring Mobile Testing Units (MTUs) directly to the community. These specially equipped vans provide a convenient way for local motorists to complete their required vehicle emissions testing without traveling to a permanent testing station.
Convenient Testing at Ross Ferraro Town Center
The Mobile Testing Units will be stationed at:
Ross Ferraro Town Center
960 N. Gary Avenue, Carol Stream, IL 60188
Motorists should enter the parking lot from Fountain View Drive.
Testing will be available on the following dates and times:
- Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday, January 21 , 23- 24, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM - JAN 23 CANCELED
- Monday through Friday, April 13 - 17, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM
- Monday through Friday, July 13 - 17, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM
- Tuesday through Saturday, October 20 - 24, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM
No appointments are necessary. Testing will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
Who is Eligible for Emissions Testing?
MTUs are available to Illinois motorists who have received either:
- An emissions test notice, or
- A registration renewal notice indicating that an emissions test is required.
To check if your vehicle qualifies for testing at an MTU, visit the Vehicle Eligibility Check Tool. Simply enter your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) or license plate number for confirmation.
About the Illinois Air Team and MTUs
The Illinois Air Team, in coordination with the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA), operates Mobile Testing Units to expand access to emissions testing throughout the Chicago metropolitan area. MTUs help reduce wait times and improve convenience for drivers by rotating through suburban communities like Carol Stream.
The vehicle emissions testing program plays an important role in improving air quality by ensuring that vehicles meet state environmental standards. Regular testing helps reduce pollutants and protect public health.
