Stay Safe During Extreme Cold – Protect Your Home and Yourself
The Village of Carol Stream is monitoring dangerously cold temperatures this weekend. Public Works is conducting winter operations to keep roads safe, but residents are strongly encouraged to stay indoors and limit travel whenever possible.
Protect Yourself and Others – Warming Centers:
If you or someone you know needs shelter, several agencies throughout DuPage County serve as temporary warming centers. Availability and hours may vary, so residents are encouraged to call ahead to confirm space.
Daytime Centers (call ahead to confirm):
· Outreach Carol Stream– 345 S. President St., Carol Stream | 630-260-7600 | Mon–Fri 8:30 a.m.–5 p.m.
· Carol Stream Public Library – 616 Hiawatha Dr., Carol Stream | 630-653-0755 | Note: The Library is closed on Friday, Jan. 23. Open Thu 9 a.m.–9 p.m., Sat 9 a.m.–5 p.m., Sun 1–5 p.m.
· Aurora Temporary Overnight Warming Center – 712 S. River St., Aurora | 7 p.m.–7 a.m. when activated. Currently open nightly Wed, Jan. 21–Mon, Jan. 26 (closing at 7 a.m. on Monday).
· Stay home and remain indoors during extreme weather, when possible
· Ensure tires are properly inflated and wipers are in good condition.
· Keep your gas tank at least half full.
· Carry a winter kit with jumper cables, gloves, a scraper, a blanket, and water.
