National Social Work Month – Supporting Our Community
March is National Social Work Month, a time to recognize the dedicated professionals who provide guidance, support, and resources to individuals and families throughout Carol Stream.
The Carol Stream Police Department Social Services Unit has served the community since 1974 and is staffed by four full-time social workers and a full-time administrator.
The Social Services Unit provides crisis intervention, short-term counseling, juvenile station adjustment counseling, victim advocacy, case management, restorative justice services, benefit linkage and community resource referrals, and 24/7 on-call response to assist patrol officers. They also help residents navigate community resources and support services. Their work addresses challenges such as family conflict, grief and loss, anxiety, behavioral concerns, and housing or financial difficulties.
The team works directly with community members to provide early support whenever possible, helping address concerns before they escalate into a crisis. In addition, working closely with police officers, the team responds to situations where residents may need immediate assistance and follows up on police reports to connect individuals with appropriate services and resources.
All services are free and confidential for Carol Stream residents.
During National Social Work Month, we thank our Social Services Unit for their compassion, professionalism, and commitment to supporting the well-being of our community.
