Spring Property Maintenance
As the weather warms up, it's a great time to freshen up your property—and stay in compliance with Village codes. Throughout the spring and summer, our property maintenance inspectors conduct routine evaluations in neighborhoods across Carol Stream. Maintaining your home’s exterior not only protects your investment but also helps keep our community safe and attractive.
Before you get started on your spring projects, take a moment to review some of the most common code enforcement issues we see this time of year:
- Grass and weeds taller than 8 inches
- Damaged or deteriorating fences (leaning, broken boards, temporary repairs, missing sections)
- Dead or diseased trees, or those infested with insects
- Trash or recycling bins visible from the street
- Outdoor storage of household items, tools, appliances, or lawn equipment in front or side yards
- Exterior deterioration such as rotting wood, missing siding or fascia, or damaged roof shingles
- Inoperable vehicles or vehicles parked on unapproved surfaces (like lawns or gravel)
- Overgrown bushes blocking sidewalks or tree branches hanging lower than 7 feet over sidewalks
Thank you for doing your part to keep Carol Stream beautiful.
Planning a project?
Before you start, check if your project requires a building permit. Many common improvements—such as decks, fences, lawn irrigation systems, and driveway replacements—need approval from the Village’s Community Development Department.
