Beginning the first week of May, the Public Works Department will begin its annual hydrant flushing program. This crucial maintenance activity is expected to take approximately 2-3 weeks to complete as crews flush all Village owned hydrants throughout the community.
Hydrant flushing helps maintain the quality and reliability of the Village’s water system. By flushing water through hydrants at a high velocity, crews are able to remove sediment that may accumulate in water mains over time. This maintenance assists in improved water clarity, maintain proper system operation, and ensures hydrants are functioning properly for fire emergencies.
What Residents May Experience
- Temporary discoloration of water
- Fluctuations in water pressure
- Water flow in streets near active flushing locations
These conditions are temporary and not harmful. If discoloration occurs, residents are encouraged to run cold water from a faucet for several minutes until it clears.
It is also recommended to avoid doing laundry during flushing in your area to prevent possible staining.
