Work Zone Safety: Slow Down and Stay Alert
Here in Carol Stream, Public Works crews are out every day maintaining roads, repairing utilities, and improving infrastructure to keep the community running smoothly. Much of this work takes place in or near active roadways—placing employees just feet away from passing vehicles.
As construction and maintenance activity increases, work zones become more common throughout the community. These areas require extra caution from drivers to help protect both workers and fellow motorists.
How You Can Help Keep Work Zones Safe
When traveling through a work zone, please remember to:
- Slow down and follow posted speed limits
- Stay alert and avoid distractions such as mobile devices
- Watch for workers and equipment in and near the roadway
- Follow directions from flaggers and posted signage
- Give crews plenty of space to safely perform their work
Even a small reduction in speed can make a significant difference in preventing accidents and injuries.
Why It Matters
Work zones are temporary but critical to maintaining safe and reliable infrastructure. Public Works employees rely on drivers to remain attentive and cautious while passing through these areas.
By slowing down and staying alert, you play an important role in helping ensure everyone—workers and motorists alike—gets home safely.
