May is Mental Health Matters Month, or Mental Health Awareness Month. The Village of Carol Stream Police Department Social Services Department will kick off the month with a community event focused around critical issues surrounding adolescent development, particularly the impact of technology, smartphones, and social media:
Glenbard Parent Series Watch Party: The Amazing Generation

Attend a library “watch party” featuring author Catherine Price discussing her book The Amazing Generation: Breaking Up with Screens and Unlocking Kids' Potential in a Tech-Filled Environment. Presented by the Glenbard Parent Series, this virtual program may also be viewed from home via Zoom. An in-person resource fair will take place prior to the program.

Connect with local organizations offering mental health services and other valuable community resources for Carol Stream residents.
• 7 p.m. | Watch Party: Program for Adults
• 8 p.m. | Watch Party: Program for Adults, Teens, and Tweens
Note: A separate virtual presentation will also be offered by the Glenbard Parent Series at 12 p.m. (NO library watch party).
The presentation focuses on helping parents, teens, and tweens better understand social media use, online engagement, and digital safety.
Sponsored by the Carol Stream Police Department Social Services Unit, Carol Stream Public Library, and the Glenbard Parent Series, this free event brings together local organizations, resources, and educational programming to support the mental health and well-being of residents of all ages.

About Mental Health Matters Month
Mental Health Matters Month is an opportunity to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and connect residents with resources that support emotional well-being. Throughout the month, the Carol Stream Police Department Social Services Unit will highlight services and information available to the community.
The Social Services Unit provides free and confidential support to Carol Stream residents, including crisis intervention, short-term counseling, and connections to local resources.
Residents are encouraged to attend this kickoff event and take advantage of the resources and information available.

About the Carol Stream Police Department Social Services Unit
The CSPD Social Services Unit has served the community since 1974, providing free and confidential support to residents. Their services include crisis intervention, short-term counseling, victim advocacy, case management, and connections to community resources.
Working closely with police officers, the Social Services Unit responds to immediate needs, follows up on police reports, and helps residents navigate challenges such as family conflict, grief, anxiety, and financial or housing difficulties.
