With storm season approaching, the Village of Carol Stream encourages residents to take a few simple steps to help protect their homes and neighborhoods during severe summer weather.
Prepare Your Home and Property
Clear Storm Drains and Gutters
Remove debris from storm drains, gutters, and downspouts to help water drain properly during heavy rain events.
Test Your Sump Pump
Ensure your sump pump is functioning properly and that the discharge line is clear and draining away from your home. Consider a battery backup in case of a power outage.
Prepare for Potential Power Outages
Charge electronic devices and keep flashlights, bottled water, and nonperishable food on hand.
Inspect Backup Generators
Make sure backup generators are fueled and operating properly before severe weather occurs.
Avoid Flooded Roads
Never drive through flooded roadways. Turn around, don’t drown.
