Heat Advisory in Effect
The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for DuPage County from noon today through 10 p.m. Wednesday. Heat index values may reach 105°F during the afternoon hours, increasing the risk of heat-related illness.
Please take precautions to stay safe:
• Drink plenty of water, even if you don't feel thirsty.
• Spend time in air-conditioned places whenever possible.
• Wear lightweight, loose-fitting, light-colored clothing.
• Limit strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day.
• Check on older adults, neighbors, and others who may be more vulnerable to the heat.
• Make sure pets have plenty of fresh water and avoid walking them on hot pavement.
• Never leave children or pets unattended in a parked vehicle.
If you or someone else experiences signs of heat stroke, including confusion, dizziness, loss of consciousness, or high body temperature, call 911 immediately.
If you or someone you know needs relief from the heat, cooling centers are available throughout DuPage County, including the Carol Stream Public Library, 616 Hiawatha Drive. Availability may vary by location, so call ahead.
DuPage County residents can also dial 2-1-1 for assistance in locating a cooling center, utility bill assistance, and other community resources.
