HYDRANT FLUSHING BEGINS TUESDAY, JULY 28
The Public Works Department will begin flushing fire hydrants throughout the Village next week. Hydrant flushing activities will primarily occur Monday through Friday from 3:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with additional flushing taking place during the early morning hours on weekends.
Public Works crews will flush approximately 2,300 fire hydrants throughout the Village as part of the annual hydrant maintenance program. The flushing program is expected to take approximately three weeks to complete.
The Village flushes publicly owned hydrants on a regular basis to remove accumulated deposits from the water mains, helping to maintain good water quality for residents. During this process, Public Works staff also inspect fire hydrants to ensure they are operating properly.
What Residents May Experience
Because the Village's water distribution system is interconnected, temporary impacts may occur throughout the Village, even if flushing is not taking place in your immediate neighborhood.
During flushing, residents may experience:
- Temporary discolored water or a slight drop in water pressure.
- Discolored water caused by naturally occurring mineral deposits being stirred up in the water mains. The water is not harmful.
- If discoloration occurs, run cold water until it clears and avoid using hot water until the cold water runs clear.
- To help prevent staining, avoid doing laundry while flushing is taking place in your area.
