As temperatures rise, so do the number of reported utility scams. Under Illinois law, consumers have the right to select their own energy company. Please use caution as you review your utility options, many alternative programs could cost you more money in the long run. You may visit this Electric Choice website to review complaint statistics on various energy companies and the Illinois Commerce Commission for details on state energy rules.
Please remember that a Village's Solicitor Permit is NOT the Village endorsing that product or service. A Village Solicitor Permit means the individual has passed a background check, nothing more. In fact, the Village is not contracted with any utility supplier to sign you up for alternative services.
Scammers may attempt to sign you up for more expensive utility contracts, they may also try to access your credit card number, or try to get you to send them money. If you believe you have been the target of a scam, contact the Illinois Attorney General's office at 800-386-5438, or visit the Illinois Attorney General's Protecting Consumers Services page.
