Leak Detection

Post Date:10/17/2019 3:40 PM

Beginning this week, a Public Works Department contractor will conduct the annual water system leak detection services on all 1,900 fire hydrants, 1,600 system valves, and 140 miles of water-mains throughout the Village. Do not be alarmed if you see these trucks in your neighborhood. Crews are simply checking for leaks- a process that does not disrupt water services. All work is scheduled for completion within 30 days.

The contractor does this job by using a special device to actually “listen” for a certain noise created by the water leak. While they may be responsible for detecting the leaks, the Public Works Water/Sewer Division oversees the entire operation.

If a leak is discovered, an on-site member of our staff is notified so the repairs can begin as soon as possible. This operation is designed to mitigate water loss and prevent infrastructure damage.

Please contact Public Works at 630-871-6260 if you have any questions.
