• Clearing a normal snow plow route to ensure safe passage for drivers, school busses, and emergency vehicles typically takes anywhere from 6-8 hours, depending on the severity of the snowfall. With over 200 lane miles of streets, 300 cul-de-sacs, and 10,000 households in Carol Stream, snow and ice removal is a large undertaking and requires an efficient response by our Public Works Department.
• An unavoidable consequence of our snow removal operations is that snow from the street gets plowed onto the end of driveways. To help limit this problem, clear about 10 feet of snow from the right side of your driveway (as you are facing it) and pile the snow to the left of your driveway- downstream of plowing operations. See the image below for a visual.

• Shoveling or blowing snow from private property onto the street is prohibited, and can result in a citation. Please do not blow or shovel from your driveway onto the street!
• Per Village Ordinance, on-street parking is prohibited after a one-inch snowfall until streets have been completely cleared of snow. Illegally parked vehicles will be ticketed and towed.
• Adopt a fire hydrant near your residence and clear it of snow for easy access in case of an emergency.
• To ensure plows do not hit refuse containers, place them behind the curb, not in the street.
• Never try to unclog a snow blower with your hands, even if it is off. Use a stick or broom handle instead. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention claim 5,300 emergency visits and 1,000 amputations a year.
• Please ensure sump pump discharge hoses do not flow onto public sidewalks or streets, which create pedestrian and motorist icing hazards.

While Carol Stream Public Works maintains most streets in the Village, some of the major roadways are owned and maintained by other agencies:
