The Community Relations Unit, consists of a sergeant, a crime prevention officer, a community affairs specialist, and two school resource officers that are assigned to Glenbard North High School and Jay Stream Middle School.
The Community Relations Unit uses a mixture of education, intelligence and enforcement to identify crime patterns and address issues before they become nuisances for Village residents. This objective is met by partnering with outside agencies to facilitate a multitude of community orientated programs. Such programs include:
- Security Survey for Homeowners and Businesses (CPTED)
- Beverage Alcohol Sellers and Servers Education and Training (BASSET)
- Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE)
- Citizen Police Academy (CPA)
- Community Emergency Response Team (CERT)
- Crime Free Multi-Housing Program
- Active Shooter & Assailant Awareness Program
- Volunteer Program

The Community Relations Unit also engages, throughout the year, with the citizens and various community partners to maintain strong ties and trust in the community. This is accomplished through various events which may include:

- Cop on Top - Special Olympics
