The Special Operations Division, consists of a sergeant, a crime prevention officer, detectives that focus on gang and drug suppression and school resource officers that are assigned to Glenbard North High School and Jay Stream Middle School. The officers have specific tasks that are unique to their designated assignment. The division also has two officers who are assigned to the Illinois State Police narcotics task forces; the DuPage Metropolitan Enforcement Group (DuMeg) and Narcotics and Currency Interdiction Team (NARCINT). DuMeg focuses its resources on combating street level narcotic sales which impact communities within DuPage County, while NARCINT deploys interdiction techniques to stop and seize large amounts of illegal drugs that are transported to the Chicagoland Metropolitan Area.
The Special Operations Division uses a mixture of education, intelligence and enforcement to identify crime patterns and address issues before they become nuisances for Village residents. This objective is met by partnering with outside agencies to facilitate a multitude of community orientated programs. Such programs include:
- Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED)
- Beverage Alcohol Sellers and Servers Education and Training (BASSET)
- Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE)
- Gang Resistance Education Awareness Training (GREAT)
- Opioid Abuse Education
- Citizen Police Academy
- Volunteer Program
- Community Emergency Response Team (CERT)
